With little of the world remaining unexplored these days, travelers often have a deep yearning to stay somewhere unusual or do intrepid, weird or whacky things. These once-in-a-lifetime journeys often fulfill those needs. They can involve shark diving, dog sledding, flights into space or sleeping in an aquarium. They range from the downright dangerous (ice diving in the North Pole) to the leisurely (hot air ballooning over the Serengeti). They don’t have to cost the earth or even be that difficult, they are simply special.
