Kigali International Airport

Kigali International Airport is the only international airport in the country and Rwanda’s main gateway. The main airline to the country is the national airline, RwandAir. The port services many carriers to the region, mostly from the African continent but several from Europe, including Brussels and Istanbul, and the United States as well. Travelers coming from the United States can use the services of KLM which flies from Boston Logan, Atlanta, Dallas Fort Worth and Detroit Wayne County. Delta flies from Denver International, Fort Lauderdale International and Las Vegas McCarran. Brussels Airlines flies from Washington Dulles Philadelphia International and New York Newark.

The airport is situated outside of the main city, about eight miles to the east of the CBD. The airport has made a reliable bus shuttle service available for passengers who would like to make the 25-minute journey. Travelers can also choose to travel by taxi as many private taxi companies wait outside of the arrivals terminal.

Kigali International has three terminals and several facilities for passengers who pass through its doors. Free wireless internet facilities are available in most areas of the airport. ATMs and currency exchanges are available, as are fully functional banks. Travelers also have their pick of several restaurants, cafés and bars.

Entebbe International Airport (Uganda)

If travelers wish to enter Rwanda from another port they can always fly to Entebbe International airport in Uganda. From here, an overland trip can be made to the capital Kampala. Travelers can then enlist the services of one of the country’s many bus companies to make the eight-hour journey into Kigali.

Tourists coming from the United States have many flight options at their disposal including British Airways, which flies from New York Newark and New York JFK, Baltimore, Boston Logan and Chicago O’Hare; Emirates Airlines which makes the trip from Dallas Fort Worth International, Houston George Bush International and Los Angeles International; and Delta which travels the route between Phoenix Sky Harbor, Portland, and New Orleans.

Entebbe International is located 25 miles outside of the capital city of Kampala but there are many local transport services which easily make the journey.
