New South Wales Taxis and Car Rental

Taxis are mostly found in the larger cities of New South Wales, including Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong. Sometimes, the best way to get from A to B, especially at night, is to travel by taxi. Smaller coastal and rural towns generally don’t offer taxi services for the public, although there are exceptions to this, including Tamworth and Orange. Newcastle Taxis (+61-2-4940-5955) and Legion Cabs (+61-2-9211-2300) are two companies offering taxi services in New South Wales.

Car rental is also a popular and highly recommended way to travel. Nowadays, visitors can conveniently drive around major cities and towns. Most roads lead to and from Sydney, like Hume Highway. Motorists need to be wary of the narrow, winding roads along the eastern coastline and interior of the country. Major rental companies found in New South Wales include Budget and Hertz. Make reservations in advance when traveling during the peak Christmas and New Year window.

New South Wales Water Taxis

Apart from the cruise ships that visit Newcastle Harbour, Sydney Harbour is where much of the water transportation occurs. Every day, hundreds of routes operate from different areas of the harbor, with most docking at and leaving from Circular Quay. Journeys are made by both modern and older ferries, but all are thoroughly maintained to follow strict safety regulations. Routes from Circular Quay include the famous Darling Harbour and Manly connections.

New South Wales Trains and Buses

New South Wales’ largest city, Sydney, operate an extensive inner-city bus transportation system. The Sydney Buses network is the largest operating bus transport system in Australia. It services a huge area, including Wollongong and the Northern Beaches region. Bus fares are generally cheaper than any other form of transport in the state.

Inter-city bus networks connect coastal and rural towns with Sydney, as most highways and roadways lead into and out of the central metropolis of the state. Coach companies, which also operate Australia wide, provide road links to dozens of cities across the state. Greyhound and Priors Scenic Express are two reliable bus companies.

CountryLink is the name of New South Wales’ inter-city rail network, which connects many magnificent destinations across the state and across the country. Cities like Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra offer rail services to Sydney. There is also a rail link connecting Sydney and Broken Hill with Adelaide and Perth. It is commonly called the Great Southern Railway. Both of these systems provide stops outside Sydney.
