Welcome to Lima, Perú. You are met upon arrival at the Lima airport and escorted to your luxury hotel in Perú’s capital city.

Lima is a large cosmopolitan city, known as “The City of Kings,” and renowned for its colonial architecture, historical sites, beautiful cathedrals, and fascinating high-quality.

The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore on your own or relax at your hotel in the sophisticated Miraflores or the bohemian Barranco district of the city.

Day 2

Lima, Iquitos & Embark on Amazon Cruise

This morning enjoy a private tour of Colonial Lima, centering around the Plaza de Armas, a spacious and handsome square in the heart of the city. Visit the Municiplidad de Lima, or Town Hall, and the Government Palace. See the landmark baroque-style Lima Cathedral, originally built in 1564, which has been reconstructed many times due to earthquakes. Tour the San Francisco Monastery, a remarkable colonial masterpiece of architecture, with a vast collection of religious art, a 17th century library, a cupola with a superb carved ceiling and a maze of catacombs containing hundreds of bones and skulls.

This afternoon, you are transferred to the Lima airport for your flight north to the gateway to the Amazon, Iquitos, a bustling city on the Amazon riverbank. You are met upon arrival, and escorted to the luxurious M/V Aria, your floating home for the next four nights. Stay in a suite with all the comforts, delectable Peruvian cuisine, and expert naturalist guides. Your Amazon cruise will be full of amazing sights and new adventures – the scenery, wildlife and local culture.

Tonight mingle with your fellow cruise travelers at your first onboard dinner. Sip fine South American wine as you gaze out upon the Amazon River. (B,D)

Day 3 - 5

Amazon Cruise

Savor these three days, as you sail along several tributaries of the Amazon, as well as on the mighty river itself. The Amazon River Jungle offers millions of acres of lakes, streams and swamplands. You can see hundreds of species of fishes, such as the Arapaima, Paiche or Pirarucu. There are also thousands of species of plants, and hundreds of species of amphibians, mammals and birds – including endangered species like the Nutria, The Harpy Eagle, the Black Titi Monkey, the Red Monkey, the Goeldi’s Monkey, and the Giant Armadillo.

Explore the Belluda Stream in the Pacaya National Reserve. Look for the monk saki monkey, the saddle back tamarin monkey, the beautiful morpho butterfly, as well as the “laughing falcon.” Travelling aboard comfortable skiffs, you venture onto the Pacaya River to view many wildlife species up close, including the huge manatee that feed on the aquatic grasses and water lilies that grow near the shore, and the gigantic Anaconda and the Grey and Pink Amazon River Dolphins.

Shore excursions provide opportunities to interact with local villagers. Night safaris reveal night herons, caiman, and of course, millions of stars in the night sky.

The days are full of interactive experiences; return from your adventures to a relaxing cocktail hour and the opportunity to discuss your observations with experienced guides. And each evening, enjoy a Peruvian culinary feast for the senses, paired with premium South American wines. (3B,3L,3D)
