New South Wales’ shopping scene is primarily centered around Sydney. Even though other major cities and towns, like Newcastle and Wollongong, do have their own shopping centers and pedestrian malls, Sydney easily overshadows them. From markets to classy malls, New South Wales’ capital city is blessed with a fine array of shopping delights. Most of the city’s best shopping spots are found in the CBD’s northern areas. This makes it easy for Sydney tourists to shop ’til they drop.

Queen Victoria Building

This cultural landmark in New South Wales is more than just a shopping destination. It is a 19th century sandstone building which contains over 400 fashion and accessories stores, including Australian and European fashion labels. The site is found along George Street, and certainly can’t be missed.

Pitt Street Mall

Found in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, Pitt Street Mall is a magnificent shopping destination for the entire family. Lined with beautiful restaurants and fabulous shops, Pitt Street is visited by thousands every day. Close to the mall are two of Australia’s largest department stores – David Jones and Myer. Westfield Sydney has recently taken control of much of Pitt Street and its mall.

Oxford Street

Oxford Street is situated just a short distance to the east of downtown Sydney. Visitors can easily walk from landmarks like the Rocks and Darling Harbour. Mid- to high-end fashion retail outlets are found along this popular street. The Paddington Markets are open every Sunday, offering a different side to the shopping scene of Sydney.
