Amman Queen Alia International Airport
Queen Alia International Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Jordan and mainly serves the capital, Amman. The main carrier is the national airline, Royal Jordanian, but several others fly into the region as well, including Delta, Air France, Lufthansa and Emirates. Royal Jordanian, Delta and United all have direct flights from New York-JFK.
The airport is fully equipped with information desks in both terminals for passengers who have questions. ATMs, banks and currency exchange can be found in both terminal one and two, while the post office is located only in terminal one. There are a host of restaurants, cafes and fast food outlets in both and the airport also offers an extensive selection of duty-free and gift shops.
Located about 45 minutes outside of Amman, there is 24-hour bus service which carries passengers between the airport and the city every 30 minutes. The prices are quite reasonable and definitely cheaper than taking a taxi, which can be found waiting outside of the arrivals terminal.
King Hussein International Airport
The King Hussein Airport is located in Aqaba in north Jordan. With only one terminal, the facility functions best when there is a light flow of traffic. It’s small in comparison to Queen Alia seeing only about 20,000 passengers a year, but it’s built to handle a capacity of 1.5 million passengers if need be.
There are no direct flights from the United States, but there are many landing in Amman, from where connections can be made. American Airlines and Royal Jordanian depart from Los Angeles, New York-JFK and Chicago O’Hare.
The airport is well equipped and the terminal offers a range of facilities. There are a host of restaurants and cafés, ATMs, banks and currency exchange that can be used at any time. Medical service are on call if need be and there is also an operational post office.
Marka International Airport
Located in East Amman, Marka International airport has one terminal and, while it is equipped to handle international traffic, it receives mainly regional and domestic flights. The airport is operational 24 hours a day, and while small, has a host of services available for the passengers. The terminal has banking facilities including ATMs and an exchange bureau, gift shops, bookstores and duty-free, and many small restaurants and cafes which are open at all hours.
