Language

The official language of St Vincent and the Grenadines is English, although there is some French patois spoken. Everyone in the country will be able to communicate in English.

Currency

The local currency in St Vincent and the Grenadines is the Eastern Caribbean dollar. Many places will accept US dollars as currency for payment (although only bills, not coins). To avoid confusion between the two currencies, always confirm which currency vendors are asking for, although often they will quote prices in both. ATMs are rare St Vincent and the Grenadines. There a few located at the major banks in the capital, Kingstown, but certainly do not expect any in the Grenadines other islands. It is best to take all the cash you need with you if visiting these islands, and most of the hotels here will accept credit card payments.

Electricity

Electricity in St Vincent and the Grenadines runs at 220-240V/50Hz variable. You may need a transformer if your electrical appliance differs from this standard (most North American appliances run at 110-120 volts). They use a British style, flat three-pin electrical socket. You will need an adaptor if your plug does not meet these standards.

Communications

The international calling code for St Vincent and the Grenadines is +784. Cell phone communication is good in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and is available in most places across the islands. If you have international roaming on your phone you can connect to the local network. St Vincent and the Grenadines also has good high speed internet available in the majority of hotels and tourist spots.

Duty-free

Duty-free goods can be purchased at ET Joshua Airport, If you are travelling to the US you are allowed to import one liter of alcohol and 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, or four pounds of tobacco.
