Detroit Metropolotan Wayne County Airport

Over 32 million passengers fly into Detroit Metro every year, the main airport serving Michigan, which is located 35 miles southwest of downtown. As Delta’s second-busiest air hub, there are a good number of connections to Detroit from the rest of the US including Atlanta, Orlando, Dallas-Forth Worth, Miami, Chicago-O’Hare and New York-La Guardia. Delta’s partner, Air France, offers direct flights to Paris, while Air Canada runs regular service to Toronto. Other international flights include Frankfurt on Lufthansa and Amman on Royal Jordanian.

The airport’s two terminals, McNarmara and North are connected by the Express Tram and people movers and Wi-Fi internet access is provided throughout the entire airport complex. McNamara is the busier of the two and used exclusively by Delta and its SkyTeam partner carriers. There is a four-star Westin hotel directly in the terminal and a solid range of passenger amenities can be found in both including currency exchange kiosks, ATMs, and dozens of restaurants and shops.

Ground transportation from Detroit Metro is provided mainly by taxis and rental cars. Due to the distance from the airport to downtown though, a taxi fare is often comparable to the daily car rental rate. There are eight rental companies on site, including Avis, Budget, Hertz, and Dollar. The airport complex is located right off two major highways, Interstate 94 and Interstate 275, ensuring easy access anywhere in Michigan.

Gerald R Ford International Airport

Michigan’s second largest airport is located 13 miles southeast of Grand Rapids. Aside from one Air Canada flight to Toronto, all the routes here run to domestic destinations. AirTran, American, Delta, United, Allegiant, and Frontier are the carriers operating regular flights into Grand Rapids. Detroit is the busiest route, followed by Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta, and Dallas.

The terminal has a decent selection of amenities, including Wi-Fi internet service. Banking facilities, cafés, shops, and a business center are available airside. Ground transportation includes taxis, limos, and The Rapid public bus system. Many area hotels offer courtesy shuttle pick-ups and five rental car companies like Avis, Hertz, and National can be found on the first level of the parking garage. The airport is located near Interstate 96 for easy access to Grand Rapids and other destinations in the region.
