As the second smallest state in America, Delaware holds many secrets that most travelers bypass without a thought. But if you’re willing to discover the fun, friendly beaches, historic hamlets, and rolling mountains laced with hiking trails that await you, Delaware makes it easy for visitors to find treasure in their scenic territory.

From the Delaware Wine and Ale Trail to major music festivals like Firefly, it’s hard to think of an activity that’s not on tap here. Summers at Rehoboth Beach or Lewes are perfect whether you’re a family, single, or couple looking for romance. Head inland and national parks like Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge offer quality face time with Delaware’s plants, birds, and animals. Rolling hills make the biking and hiking a favorite thing to do, and if you’re a boater or angler, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the variety of options.

Delaware’s 25 miles of coastline and five beach towns are major highlights of the state. They are just as popular with residents on summer holiday as they are with visitors from out of town. Delaware Seashore State Park has the most tranquil atmosphere, while neighboring Dewey Beach likes to party. Rehoboth is the all-round favorite thanks to its mix of restaurants, hotels, and bars that support a nice stretch of sand and sea with water sports to boot. Bethany and Fenwick each have their draw and charm, as well.

Biking is one of the best activities in Delaware. Head to Lewes for a flat, relaxing seaside ride along its well-marked system of coastal bike paths. Lewes Cycle Sports offers rentals, maps, and guides though it’s possible to organize a day’s biking excursion on your own. Rehoboth’s Atlantic Cycle is another excellent guide and bike rental shop. Cape Henlopen State Park, Trap Pond State Park, and the six-mile Junction and Breakwater Trail are just some of the inspiring biking destinations in Delaware.

Between the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay there is amazing fishing in the state. From late March all the way through November, there sea fish abound. Bay and ocean fishing outings are popular in the coastal towns like Lewes and Cape Henlopen. Check out Angler’s Fishing Center or Lewes Harbor Fishing and Boating Outfitters for a variety of organized trips.

The golfing in Delaware is sublime thanks to its gentle, rolling hills and scenic coastline. Between the two environments are a number of excellent golf courses that challenge as much as inspire. Wilmington is a great base for golf holidays, with several nearby courses including Delcastle Golf Course and the Ed Oliver Golf Club. Rock Manor Golf Course even has a golf academy to help you hone your skills.

Any fan of motor sports or NASCAR racing, in particular, will know the name Dover, Delaware. This is the home of the Dover International Speedway, which hosts two major stock car races every year that draw hordes of racing fans to its stands that can hold up to 140,000 spectators. When it isn’t a race weekend, you can try your hand behind the wheel of a stock car (with an instructor) through the professionals at the Monster Racing Driving School.
