Bahrain International Airport
The island’s only civil airport might look sleepy, but it handles a sizable number of international passengers each day. Located 12 miles north of Manama in a built-up area, it connects a number of intercontinental destinations to Bahrain and serves as a major regional hub. Bahrain Air and Gulf offer the most flights, with destinations served including Bangkok, Abu Dhabi, and Istanbul. There are no direct flights to the US, but connections can be made via London Heathrow or another major European airport.
The airport boasts one of the biggest duty-free operations in the Middle East and there are several restaurant and bar areas, as well as a food court. Official check-in time is two hours before your flight takes off. To reach the airport from Manama, take a metered taxi and allow at least half an hour during the daytime. Taxi prices increase between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.. Car rental is available on site through major suppliers such as Avis, Budget, and Hertz.
