Iraq has a hot and arid climate. Summers see weather well above 104°F throughout most of the country, frequently rising to a sweltering 118°F. The fiercely hot and dry air typically lasts from May through September, but nights, especially in the northern regions, are slightly cooler. Winters are moderate, with average temperatures ranging from 59 to 61°F. Precipitation is low throughout the country, but the northern regions receive the most rainfall. Precipitation is the heaviest November through April.

Climate-wise, Iraq is at its best during the cool winter months. Should you choose to travel during the summer, pack loose clothing and plenty of sunscreen. Women are expected to dress conservatively so don't wear skimpy skirts, short sleeves or shorts.
