Jersey is way south of the English coastline, closer to France, and as a result has better weather than anywhere else in the UK. As well as higher average temperatures, Jersey typically also enjoys longer hours of sun and is drier. There are four seasons—spring through winter—with the shoulder season months of May-June and September offering the all-round best tourist experience.
Summer days in August can get up to 95°F and beyond, with average highs at a pleasant 68°F to 77°F. Even when it does warm up, the sea breezes keeps the area pleasant. It is the nicest May through October, with low levels of rainfall and humidity at this time. July-August has the best weather for a beach holiday, but be aware that all of Europe is on their school break and the island fills up fast.
Jersey is surprisingly mild in winter, due to the enveloping Gulf Stream, though it rains most October through February. This is still preferable to the climate in neighboring Normandy and England. Hotel rates also drop during these off-peak months, but bear in mind that some of the tourist infrastructure may be closed for the season, including select cottages, shops, and cafés.
Best Time to Visit Jersey
May through October has the best weather in Jersey. The best time for sunbathers is July and August, but for sightseers and for overall value, look for a trip in May, June and September through early October. Temperatures are in the 60’s°F by day and 50°F by night, plus it is quieter with tourists. Springtime is slightly better than the fall, when there is more chance of rain.
The main attractions, golf courses, hiking trails, beaches, and charters run year-round, but some of the flight destinations are seasonal. Connections between the UK and Jersey are year-round so there is always a way to get there.
