Estonia enjoys a continental climate, with regions consistently warmed by the maritime air. Despite its northern latitude, the country has mild weather, thanks to its geography. The Baltic Sea also influences the coastal and inland climates, but generally, the country has four seasons. The average annual temperature is 41°F, with February being the coldest month getting all the way down to 22°F. July is the warmest time, though temperatures are never arid, averaging 62°F.

Light rains fall during spring and autumn, so be sure to pack waterproof clothing when visiting Estonia during these seasons. The winter offers pleasantly cool temperatures, ideal for skiing, sledding and many other outdoor sports. With varied climates at different times of the year, it is not hard to find the perfect weather for the kind of trip you are planning.

Best Time to Visit Estonia

While temperatures are not as nippy as other regions of Northern Europe, Estonian winters (December through March) tend to be a bit of a bummer because of limited daylight hours. This does not necessarily keep sport enthusiasts from enjoying the slopes, though, as ski trails (especially in Otepaa) are well developed with good lighting. Late spring through early summer (April to May) is the best time to visit, especially if you are looking to explore the Estonian wilderness.
