Cheddi Jagan International Airport

Previously called Timehri International Airport, Guyana’s national airport is situated on the bank of the Demerara River in Timehri, about 25 miles south of Georgetown. Cheddi Jagan is a public and government-owned aviation facility operated by its own corporation, CJIA. The airport has one passenger terminal and is served by Caribbean Airlines, LIAT, Delta Air Lines, Surinam Airways, and Roraima Airways, with flights to airports like Barbados, Miami, New York-JFK, Toronto Pearson, Port of Spain, Paramaribo, Lethem, and Georgetown-Ogle.

In the single-story terminal, you can find self check-in kiosks along with traditional check-in counters to speed up the process. There are four dining areas on the grounds. El Dorado Bar is in the Departures lounge, while Roti Hut is right outside the Departures area. Oasis Express is another restaurant on the upper concourse. Lotus International Restaurant is located just outside the terminal.

The Departures area has four duty-free shops where you can buy a range of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, jewelry, watches, sunglasses, and other goods. There is a bookshop selling magazines, stationery, educational toys, and crafts. If you need airtime credits for your cell phone or would like a local SIM card during your stay in Guyana, drop by the Greeter’s hall where you can find Cellworks. Souviners are also sold at the upper Departures area.

Outside the terminal, taxis are readily available which are managed by the airport’s own cab service. The drivers wear an off-white shirt with black pants and an identification badge. Every CJIA Taxi (+592-261-2281 or +592-600-7022) has a list of destinations along with fixed fares.

Kaieteur International Airport

This air hub is the prime aviation gateway to visitors of Kaiateur National Park in the Potaro-Siparuni region. It is also an important shuttling outpost. Two trails connect Kaieteur Falls to the facility, which is four miles away. It has a 2,000-feet long asphalt runway and is served by Roraima Airways with flights to Georgetown-Cheddi Jagan and Trans Guyana Airways flights to Georgetown-Ogle. Tour operators and taxis can help with transport from the airport to the park.
