The official language of Dominica is English, but most of the locals can also speak French Creole.

Dominica uses the East Caribbean dollar (XCD, EC$). Banknotes are available in denominations of EC $5, 10, 20, 50, and 100, while coins come in 50, 2, 5, 10, 25, and 1 cents, plus EC $1. ATMs can be found throughout the island, and Visa, American Express and MasterCard are widely accepted. Most hotels accept travelers’ checks. Banks are open from Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There are bureaux de change facilities and banks with currency exchange services.

Some hotels and restaurants have internet access, but connection speeds are often slow yet reliable.

You may bring up to 200 cigarettes or a box of cigars (or an equivalent amount of tobacco) into Dominica without incurring customs duties as long as you are at least 18 years old.
