Maldives — Food and Restaurants

Within the Maldives, seafood is the main ingredient found in most restaurants and cuisines. This is not surprising considering that the Indian Ocean has been supplying this nation since its birth. Of course, European and Asian influences are also prevalent and there are basically two different spots to find meals. Male is home to a variety of restaurants offering local and international cuisine. The other option is at the resorts, as most contain one or two dining options and the obvious choice for all-inclusive packages. If you’re not already booked on a meal plan, some hotels offer half-board or full-board rates that include lunch and/or dinner to limit your cost. There isn’t much in the way of night clubs outside of the resorts, but drinking is allowed, however it is difficult finding alcohol in the city of Male.

Bars and Pubbing in Maldives

There are dozens of fabulous island resorts that boast a range of night time entertainment and after-dark venues can stay open all night long! Kuredu is famous for its bars and picturesque views. The Pool Bar (Kuredu Island Resort, Kuredu Island, Lhaviyani Atoll, Maldives) is known for its margaritas, daiquiris, and other frozen cocktails by the beautiful poolside. Babuna Bar (Kuredu Island Resort, Kuredu Island, Lhaviyani Atoll, Maldives) is the main venue on Kuredu when it comes to nighttime fun in the Maldives.

Pass the time at Sails (Baros Maldives, Kaafu Atoll, Maldives), which provides great views of the lagoon from comfortable hammocks.

Dining and Cuisine in Maldives

Male is home to the largest variety of restaurants and dining options in the Maldives. Most other towns and settlements have only limited eateries. For beautiful views and excellent food, try The Hive Restaurant (M. Nalahiyaage, Majeedhee Nagu, Male) or the relaxed atmosphere of Saffron Café (Boduthakurufaanu Nagu, Male, Maldives). International cuisine has never tasted so good at Thai Wok (Henveiru, Male, Maldives), which is a fabulous food spot.

Amari Addu is a resort in the southern part of the Maldives with several fine dining choices. Keimaa Restaurant (Amari Addu Maldives, Addu Atoll, Maldives) is a magnificent spot for local Maldivian dishes. Meeraa Restaurant and Lounge (Amari Addu Maldives, Addu Atoll, Maldives) offers some of the best sunset views with your meal. For a more lively option, try the Dhoni Bar (Amari Addu Maldives, Addu Atoll, Maldives) for great food and equally satisfying drinks.

For a private escape, the restaurants on Royal Island will delight. The Maakanaa Restaurant (Royal Island Resort & Spa Maldives, Baa Atoll, Maldives) is one of the most beautiful spots for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the island. The smart casual dining of Raabondhi Restaurant (Royal Island Resort & Spa Maldives, Baa Atoll, Maldives) is also worth a try.
