Shahjalal International Airport
Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport is as the main gateway into Bangladesh, but you can also use Sylhet and Chittagong if you wish to fly directly to certain tourist and commercial hubs. The airport is the base for the national carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and private carrier, United Airways. Biman has connections to major hubs in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, while United offers domestic and regional routes. There are no direct flights from the US, but Cathay Pacific offers nonstop routes from New York (JFK) airport to Hong Kong, from where you can connecting via Dragonair to Dhaka. Alternatively, Continental flies from Newark (NJ) to Hong Kong. From LAX, Cathay Pacific, Singapore and Thai Airlines all offer non-stop flights to their respective Asian hubs from where onward flights to are available.
The terminal has modern facilities and is equipped for both leisure and business travelers. You will find several airport lounges where you can relax, dine or be entertained. There are three terminals; two for international traffic and one for domestic flights. Buses run between the city and the airport on a regular basis, which takes 45 minutes for the 11-mile journey. Taxis are also available at the airport, along with rental cars and chauffeured pickup services.
