International Travel
Getting There By Air
The main international services are run by Air Canada (AC) (www.aircanada.com), with regular flights from Whitehorse to Vancouver. Air North (4N) (www.flyairnorth.com) provides flights from Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver to Whitehorse.
Main Airports
Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport (YXY) (www.gov.yk.ca/yxy) is 7km (4 miles) from downtown Whitehorse. To/from the airport: Taxis and car hire are available (journey time - 10 minutes).
Getting There By Water
Cruise ships and passenger and vehicle ferries operate from Bellingham in Washington (USA) and Vancouver and Prince Rupert in British Columbia, arriving at Skagway in Alaska and connecting with Whitehorse by bus, or train/bus combination. Whitehorse is approximately 180km (113 miles) from Skagway. You can obtain ferry information from the Alaska Marine Highway System (tel: 1 800 642 0066; www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs ).
Getting There By Road
The major road in the region is the Alaska Highway, running from Alaska to British Columbia through Whitehorse. The Dempster Highway connects Dawson City with Inuvik in the north. The Klondike Highway connects Skagway, Alaska to Dawson City, Yukon.
Coach: Scheduled coach services are available between most Yukon communities. Greyhound (tel: 1 800 661 8747; www.greyhound.ca) operates regular services from Edmonton, Alberta, to Whitehorse during the summer. Direct coach transfers run daily from May to September between Skagway and Whitehorse, or combination White Pass and Yukon Route (tel: 1 800 343 7373; www.wpyr.com) rail and coach transfers are available.
