Prince Edward Island — Airports
Between 2006 and 2008, passenger traffic at Prince Edward Island’s only major airport increased by a dramatic 80 percent. Charlottetown Airport welcomed a record number of over 282,000 passengers in 2008.
US travelers can connect directly to the airport via seasonal flights from New York-JFK. Off peak, US travelers need to connect through one of the Canadian airports with flights to Charlottetown Airport such as Toronto-Pearson. Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Montréal, and the small Labrador airport of Port Hope Simpson all offer year-round direct flights from Canada. Sunwing Airlines offers seasonal winter flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Varadero, Cuba.
A Delta Distributors gift shop, wireless internet access, the casual Budley’s restaurant, a travel agency, and a commissionaire’s booth to track lost and found items are among this small airport’s amenities.
Hertz, Avis, Budget, and National are the car rental providers available at Charlottetown Airport, but passengers can also call the direct line to Co-op Taxi at the Arrivals door. Taxis also offer custom Prince Edward Island tours beginning at C $50 per hour. Pat and the Elephant and Donna’s Transport offer wheelchair accessible transportation for those who need it. Maritime Luxury Limousine and Sedan Service allow passengers to travel the 3.5 miles between the airport and downtown Charlottetown in the ultimate lap of luxury.
