Alderney Travel Guide

Alderney — Shopping and Leisure

As with the other Channel Islands, Alderney is duty-free, so there is no tax on cigarettes, booze or perfume. All the shopping is in the town of St Anne so meander down the cobblestone Victoria Street, High Street, and Le Hurer, where you can pick up local crafts at friendly boutiques.

Popular local items to buy in Alderney include pottery and crafts, along with wool sweaters from nearby Guernsey. You can also purchase fashions that you’d see on a typical UK main street. Food delicacies include ice cream and a good range of cheeses—head to Le Cocq (Le Huret, St Anne) for the latter. A cute storefront, it is easily found by heading west, then south, from High Street.

Shops roughly follow office hours and are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (or later), Monday through Saturday. Smaller boutiques may close for lunch or shut down early on Wednesday, while others have some Sunday hours in the peak summer season.
