Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) is Slovenia’s main international airport. Adria Airways is the main carrier and regularly serves Amsterdam, Belgrade, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Istanbul-Atatürk, Moscow-Sheremetyevo, Munich, Vienna, and Zürich. During the summer, there are also flights to Barcelona, London-Luton, Manchester, and Split. Air France, CSA, EasyJet, LOT, Japan Airlines, Malev, and Turkish Airlines also operate here. Passengers from the US generally need to connect through London, Paris, or Brussels.

The airport has an information center, bars, restaurants, and duty-free shops. There are taxis, public buses, and private shuttle services from the airport to downtown, a trip that takes between 30 and 45 minutes. There are a number of car rental companies located across from Arrivals.

Pula Airport, Croatia

An alternate point of entry is to fly into Pula Airport in neighboring Croatia. Serving roughly 350,000 passengers a year, this airport offers mostly seasonal flights to European destinations, as well as year-round trips to Zadar and Zagreb. US passengers can connect via major European hubs such as Paris, Amsterdam or London. Public buses and taxis take passengers to Pula, four miles away, from where buses and trains run to Slovenia.

Trieste Airport, Italy

Serving Slovenia as well as northeastern Italy, Trieste Airport has regularly scheduled flights to Milan, Rome, Munich, London, and Barcelona, and budget seasonal flights to Birmingham, Milan, Rome, and a few other other European cities. Car rental, public transportation and taxis are available at the airport, with buses to Slovenia departing from Trieste coach station.
