Luxembourg Travel Guide

Luxembourg — Weather

Luxembourg has a moderate and enjoyable climate, with warm summers and mild winters. The summer months fall between May and September when temperatures can reach around 85°F. However, rain showers are common, especially in the wetter Ardennes region in the north where the weather is also slightly cooler. The great thing about visiting during spring and fall is the long days, with the sunshine staying out until around 10:00 p.m. Be warned, as romantic as wintertime trips may be, the sun sets at 4:00 p.m. and the thermometer can sometimes drop as low as 5°F.

Best Time to Visit Luxembourg

Luxembourg experiences a steady flow of tourists throughout the year, especially in the capital city, with the majority of establishments and attractions open year-round. There is no defined high season, although the height of summer and the Christmas period tend to be busier, so if you’re planning to visit during these periods, advance booking is advised and crowds should be expected.

The northern areas, including the Ardennes region, are very quiet around the New Year, reducing the number of accommodation and dining options. Both spring and fall are great times to visit the bucolic duchy, as the landscape transforms, offering some fantastic scenery and pleasant weather. Trips during the fall provide visitors with the opportunity to savor the lively wine-making season in the Moselle region, while most major festivals are celebrated in the warm summer with many events organized in the capital. Due to the unpredictable weather particularly in the higher altitudes, waterproof jackets are recommended regardless of the time of year.
