Latvia — Weather
Latvia’s weather is strongly influenced by the nearby Baltic Sea and experiences four distinct seasons due to its northern European location. Generally speaking, Latvia has warm summers, very cold winters, and high, humid climate which lead to heavy precipitation.
Winters in Latvia fall between the months of December and February, although cold temperatures continue until about mid-March. The climate falls to 25°F from 35°F at the beginning of the season. January and February are the coldest months of the year, which brings snow for much of the country. It is not uncommon for days to get as low as -20°F.
The summer season occurs from June through August. Days can be quite warm, with temperatures sometimes reaching as high as 86°F, usually hovering around 68°F and cooler at night.
Best Time to Visit Latvia
Summer is by far the best time to visit Latvia, but with the best weather comes the biggest crowds. Hordes of European travelers flock to this Baltic nation every year, especially during June, July, August, and September. Hotel rates are always more expensive at this time.
If you’re looking to save money, hotel rates tend to fall between October and April, but try to avoid the bitterly cold winter months of January and February, as travel and sightseeing becomes difficult in the heavy snow. April, May, October and November are all comfortable when it comes to temperature, but plenty of rain will accompany a holiday in autumn.
