Gibraltar’s Mediterranean climate is moderated by easterly Levante winds which bring warm sea currents and humidity, and westerly Poniente winds providing cool, crisp air. Summers in Gibraltar are typically dry, with daytime temperatures rarely lower than 77°F and sometimes as high as 88°F. Most precipitation falls in winter, when temperatures can reach a high of 64°F and rarely fall below 52°F. The amount of daytime hours varies greatly from 11 in July to five in November. Gibraltar is completely free from rainfall for up to 90 days at a time in summer, but even winter sees few bad days.

Best Time to Visit Gibraltar

Gibraltar is a popular daytrip destination during its summer high season (June through August), when many visitors include the territory in their itinerary to a longer holiday in Spain and Morocco. Like the Costa del Sol region which surrounds it, Gibraltar sees hotel and airfare rates peak in the warmer months.

Some visitors prefer the spring and fall shoulder seasons (March to May and September to November) to avoid the hottest heat and bigger crowds. In these in-between months, average daytime temperatures still hover around a pleasant 70°F, plenty warm enough for water sports and sunbathing. Although winter (December to February) may be a tad too cool for the beach, temperatures usually remain mild enough to walk around and explore Gibraltar attractions.
