British nationals do not need a visa to get into most British Overseas Territories as long as they have a British passport. All non-British visitors must have a passport. US, Canadian and Australian citizens do not need a visa. For in-depth information on travel requirements, check with the UK Border Agency.

Health and Safety

It is generally safe to visit the British Overseas Territories, but you should still be vigilant and practice the usual precautions to avoid falling prey to petty criminals, especially in crowded tourist areas. Avoid leaving your things unattended and do not travel alone, especially at night. The police should be readily available to assist you if you have any problems.

It is important to note that natural hazards may be present in some areas. In Montserrat, the active volcano has prompted the evacuation of many people from the original capital, Plymouth, which was destroyed by an eruption in the mid-1990's. The Falklands can get extremely hot from August until December because of the Antarctic ozone hole, so wear sunscreen and avoid staying out in the sun for too long. Some islands are vulnerable to seasonal hurricanes and always keep a safe distance from wild animals such as sea lions, fur seals and elephant seals in the Falklands.

There are no known epidemics in the British Overseas Territories so no specific vaccinations are required for entry. Some of the islands have limited healthcare facilities and access to medicine so bring your own first-aid kit and prescriptions with you.
