Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport

Although not in the capital, most international passengers will fly into San Pedro Sula, the second largest city in Honduras. It is the busiest airport in the country, and serves travelers well with proximity and onward connections to attractions such as the Mayan ruins of Copan and the Caribbean beaches of Tela and La Ceiba, from where a boat trip to the Bay Islands is possible. American Airlines, Delta, United, and TACA have direct routes to the US through Atlanta, Houston, Miami, Newark, and New York-JFK. There are also several domestic flights to Tegucigalpa, La Ceiba and Roatan on by Aerolineas Sosa, CM Airlines, EasySky Airlines, and TACA.

The Honduran airport has a few stores and restaurants, as well as the usual services of currency exchange, banks and duty-free stores. There is currently a new terminal being built which is expected to be completed in 2015. To help pay for the expansion, a departure tax of US $40 is charged before you can go through customs. Taxi journeys from the airport to downtown take around ten minutes, and there will be plenty waiting on your arrival.

Toncontín International Airport

Not as busy as its northern counterpart, this airport in the capital city of Tegucigalpa still hosts a fair number of international flights. American Airlines, Delta, Taca, and United have direct flights to Atlanta, Houston and Miami. You can connect with other destinations in Honduras through Aerolineas Sousa, and Taca to La Ceiba, Roatan and San Pedro Sula.

Toncontin has a new international terminal with restaurants, a post office, ATMs, currency exchange, and duty-free stores. The airport is located four miles from the center of Tegucigalpa, a short taxi-ride away.

Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport

The main airport serving the Bay Islands, there are direct flights from Atlanta, Houston, Miami, and Newark on American, Delta and United. However, these services are infrequent, usually Saturdays only, but can increase in high season. Domestic flights to the Honduran cities of San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba and Tegucigalpa are abundant. The airport is small, although it has adequate services for the traveler, and if you are flying to an international destination, you will be able to use the duty-free stores once past security.
