Turks and Caicos Islands Travel Guide

Turks and Caicos Islands — Visas and Vaccinations

No visa is required to enter Turks and Caicos for citizens of the US, Canada, the UK and most other European countries, Australia, and New Zealand. On arrival, you will be granted an automatic stay for a period of up to 30 days for tourism purposes, except British citizens who will automatically be granted 90 days for tourism purposes. You can gain a visa on entry provided that you have at least six months’ validity on your passport and an onward ticket.

Health and Safety

There is no malaria in Turks and Caicos; however, there is a slight risk of dengue fever, so every care should be taken to defend against insect bites by covering up exposed skin and applying repellent.

There are new hospital facilities in Providenciales, although very serious healthcare problems will likely require evacuation overseas, usually to Miami, USA. It is advisable to travel with full health insurance coverage, even if you are a British Citizen and eligible for some elements of free healthcare. The country is generally a disease-free place. However, you should ensure the following routine vaccinations are up to date before you travel to Turks and Caicos: hepatitis A and B, rabies, and tetanus. If you do not currently have these immunizations, seek the vaccine at least six weeks before travel.

Crime is extremely low in Turks and Caicos, although slightly higher in the main town of Providenciales, where opportunistic burglaries and thefts do take place. You should always ensure you take care of your belongings and remain especially vigilant walking around at night, particularly if you are alone.

Turks and Caicos is at risk of hurricanes between June to November, although the country is rarely hit directly. However, strong winds and heavy rain are often experienced during hurricane season. Hotel staff will inform guests of any weather warnings, or you can seek advice on the website of the American National Hurricane Center: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/.
