St Maarten Taxis and Car Rental

There are plenty of taxis in St Maarten, which are usually vans which can carry up to 10 people. It is possible to use taxis to access both the Dutch and French sides as there is no need to go through any border controls. Circumnavigating the entire island takes about an hour, and many taxis are willing to be rented for the entire day to take you on a tour of the island. You can call the Dutch St Maarten Taxi Association (+11-721-543-7815) to book.

There are several car rental companies located at the airport in St Maarten, and self-driving is popular here. Many of the roads are narrow and some are in bad condition so extra care should be taken when driving here. You can call Avis (+11-721-552-2847), Budget (+11-721-545-4030), or Hertz (+11-721-554-314), which have a range of vehicles on offer.

St Maarten Water Taxis

There are water taxis available to shuttle passengers between Philipsburg to the cruise ship docking area. Both single trip tickets and wrist bands which will cover multiple trips in a single day are available.

St Maarten Trains and Buses

There are no trains in St Maarten. The only form of public transportation is privately owned vans, regulated by the government, which operate as buses. You will be able to recognize these vehicles because their license plates read the word ‘BUS’. There are frequent routes between Philipsburg and Marigot (on the French side), as well as other places.
