Caribbean, the Caribbean Sea, more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs, and cays - the West Indies by Patrick Nouhailler via Flickr Creative Commons

Saba is found in the Caribbean Sea, so it experiences a tropical maritime climate. Like other islands in the Leeward Antilles, Saba experiences hot summers and mild winters. During the year, an average temperature of 80°F blankets the island. Nevertheless, tourists will feel a difference between summer and winter on Saba.

The summer months (June through August) are generally much hotter, more humid, and rainier than the winter months (December to February). Temperatures exceed 88°F on average, and coupled with the humidity, don’t make summer an overly comfortable holiday experience. Winter temperatures can fall to around 80°F, sometimes even lower. The mercury is more comfortable for holidaying during the cooler months.

Rain falls more frequently between May and September. In addition, this period is prone to cyclones, which occur on a yearly basis around Saba and the Leeward Antilles. The highland areas of the island experience cold temperatures, especially at night. This means tourists should carry warm clothes if spending the night atop places like Mt Scenery.

Best Time to Visit Saba

Saba is best visited during the winter months. However, this is also when the peak tourism season occurs. Many tourists from Europe and North America flock to the island during their bitterly cold winters at home in search of warm weather. December and January are particularly busy months in Saba, not to mention more expensive.

The summer months are humid and hot, bringing heavy rain, tropical storms, and cyclones. In addition, insects populate the island during the rainy period and can make sleeping uncomfortable for tourists. Nevertheless, April and October experience less humidity and fewer insect issues than summer, making tourism suitable at this time.
