Martinique has a tropical, humid climate with temperatures ranging between 75°F and 85°F year round. The weather is moderated by cool trade winds coming from the northeast, but as you climb in altitude, you can expect about a 10°F drop for every 1,000 ft (the highest peak in the country reaches 4,500 ft).

The rainy season lasts between June and October, seeing up to 9.5 inches in the wettest month of September, compared to only 2.5 in March at the height of the dry season. Martinique still gets tropical storms during the dry season, though, and it will rain for about 13 days a month, although short downpours that shouldn't ruin the day. In September, you can expect nearly double the amount of precipitation, although showers are still sparse during this time.

The hurricane season in Martinique usually runs from June to October, which coincides with the rainy season. The island is rarely hit directly by a tropical cyclone, but you can expect storms passing over the country. Martinique is hit by a devastating cyclone once every eight years on average.

Best Time to Visit Martinique

Most people choose to visit Martinique during the dry season, and the busiest tourist months are between December and April. During this time, accommodation can be booked quickly and prices soar compared to other months. Another spike in prices occurs in July and August, which is Northern Hemisphere's summer, but if you book your travel well in advance you can avoid paying up to twice as much.

July and August are the hottest and most humid months since it is the start of the rainy season, although it does not rain often. By September tropical storms begin to brew, so it is best to avoid being out on a boat at sea. May and June may offer the best deal for visitors as the weather is dry and pleasant, not too humid, and prices are still low. Another good time to visit is right after the rainy season in November when the famous flowers are in bloom.
