Swaziland — Airports
Swaziland’s only international airport lies in this small country’s geographic center, over half a mile west of Manzini. Roughly 100,000 passengers use this small airport each year. Although a larger airport called Sikhuphe International Airport, intended to replace Matsapha Airport, is currently under construction, it is not yet ready to receive passenger traffic. Sikhuphe International Airport’s annual maximum passenger capacity will be 300,000 people once it opens.
As Matsapha Airport’s only current direct flights are Swaziland Airlink flights to and from Johannesburg, most foreign passengers first fly to South Africa, then either take ground transportation or a connecting flight from Johannesburg’s far larger OR Tambo International Airport. A free wireless internet hotspot was recently installed in Matsapha Airport alongside the snack shop and car rental offices of Imperial and Avis.
