Tour Description

Our tour and cruise combination will take you on an exciting voyage across the vast Atlantic and unforgettable journey through the romantic country of Italy. Embark on a relaxing trans-Atlantic cruise aboard MSC’s Poesia and experience white glove treatment and exceptional cuisine while exploring a multitude of one-of-a-kind ports. Stops during your 16-night cruise will take you to explore San Juan, St. Maarten, St. John’s, Madeira Islands, Alicante and Barcelona. Bid farewell to the pampered life aboard MSC as you arrive in Italy, disembarking in Genoa and visiting the infamous leaning tower in Pisa en route to Montecatini. After, explore picturesque Florence before ending your journey in the “Eternal City” of Rome, visiting the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel and sightseeing the highlights of Ancient Rome.

Day 1

(Sat, March 17) - Arrive Ft. Lauderdale, FL:

Your adventure begins as you arrive in Ft. Lauderdale, and board the deluxe MSC’s Poesia cruise ship, your home for the next 17 nights. If you purchased airline tickets from YMT Vacations, you will be welcomed by a YMT representative, and transferred to the MSC Poesia. (If you made your own flight arrangements, please make your own way to the ship.)

Days 2 - 3

(Sun - Mon, March 18-19) - At Sea:

Settle in and discover the many facilities aboard your ship. Enjoy the warmth of the Caribbean and the many activities available to you. The experienced crew is at your disposal to help with suggestions and the daily newsletter outlines the ship’s amenities and featured activities for each day.

Day 4

(Tues, March 20) - San Juan, Puerto Rico (7:00AM - 5:00PM):

This colonial Spanish treasure offers a diversity of landscapes - from sunny beaches to hillside tropical rainforests. Explore the interior on bike, jeep or escorted tour, or simply stroll through the vibrant and colorful 300-year-old city of San Juan. Other optional activities include kayaking and a tour of the famed Bacardi Rum Distillery.

Day 5

(Wed, March 21) - St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles (8:00AM - 5:00PM):

Located in the Caribbean Sea, St. Maarten is apart of the Netherland Antilles five islands. The island is an example of the Caribbean’s island perfection, with white sands, clear waters and lush vegetation inland. For a small island there is a lot to do here. Try windsurfing, kayaking, jet-skiing, snorkelling or diving or enjoy sightseeing amoung the colonial architecture of Philipsburg as well as sampling the fusion of French and Caribbean cuisine. Or, if you fancy leaving your luxury cruise liner to laze on the beach, St. Maarten is a great place to do it.

Day 6

(Thurs, March 22) - St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda (9:00AM - 5:00PM):

Set in the northeast Caribbean, Antigua is a tropical paradise with 365 stunning palm-fringed beaches and crystal clear water. The largest of the volcanic Leeward Islands, Antigua is the most popular and most developed. Explore picturesque English Harbor, a historic bay that has been a staging post for centuries. See St. John’s, the capital, and a lively place filled with a variety of tropical shops and cafes. Take the opportunity to see the natural beauty of the island by zip lining above the lush rainforest canopy. Other optional tours include horseback riding, off-roading, snorkeling and even a Pirate Cruise!

Days 7 - 11

(Fri - Tues, March 23-27) - Transatlantic Crossing:

Spend the week enjoying the pampered life at sea on your “Ode to the Atlantic” cruise. Learn to play shuffleboard or chess; attend a wine-tasting workshop or perhaps an art class. Take a swim, sauna, or relax in a hot tub. At night play in the casino, catch the scheduled evening’s entertainment, or just relax with your favorite beverage in one of the many cafes or lounges. The daily newsletter and the friendly staff can guide you to get the most out of your cruise.

Day 12

(Wed, March 28) - Funchal, Madeira Island (9:00AM - 6:00PM):

An area of natural and unspoiled beauty, the Portuguese Island of Madeira presents a panorama filled with flower fields and dotted with colorful cottages. Optional shore excursions include tours of the Capital, Funchal, the sugar cane fields, embroidery factories, and a cable car ride to the Botanical Gardens.

Day 13

(Thurs, March 29) - At Sea:

Enjoy another day of relaxation and the pleasures of life at sea as we cruise around the Iberian peninsula and into the Mediterranean Sea.

Day 14

(Fri, March 30) - Malaga, Spain (8:00AM - 5:00PM):

The main city on the Costa del Sol, Malaga offers great beaches, beautiful landscapes and a region rich in history. Founded by the Phoenicians, the area has also been under the control of the Moors and of course the Spanish. Explore this city with its fortress and cathedral dating back to the early 16th century, or take an optional tour to see the pre-historic Caves of Nerja or Gibralfaro Castle.

Day 15

(Sat, March 31) - Alicante, Spain (9:00AM - 4:00PM):

We cruise along the coast of Spain to the Valencia area and “Costa Blanca” - named for its miles of white sandy beaches. Our port-of-call is Alicante, a city with beautiful boulevards of beckoning shops. Take the Alicante streetcar to explore the city or out to the beach.

Day 16

(Sun, April 1) - Barcelona, Spain (8:00AM - 1:00PM):

The capital of the Catalonia region, Barcelona is Spain’s second largest city. It is a modern, sophisticated urban center with a cultural heart dating back to the Middle Ages. The city offers a plethora of sites to explore - art museums, the spectacular Cathedral built by James II in 1298, Gaudi’s impressive unfinished Neo-gothic cathedral, the Olympic Park and more. Tonight, celebrate and enjoy your last evening aboard the MSC’s Poesia.

Day 17

(Mon, April 2) - Disembark Genoa, Italy and continue to Pisa Montecatini (9:00AM):

Disembark this morning onto Italian soil in the port of Genoa, a modern metropolis with centuries of artistic history. We depart Genoa by motorcoach for a scenic drive into the heart of Tuscany. Enroute, we stop in Pisa to see the iconic 800-year old Leaning Tower. By late afternoon, we arrive in the town of Montecatini, where we spend the next two nights. (D)

Day 18

(Tues, April 3) - Florence Sightseeing:

This morning we explore the captivating city of Florence, with its panoramic landscape of incredible architecture and gardens. Our guided walking tour* (2 hrs.) of this Renaissance capital visits its Duomo cathedral with the Brunelleschi cupola and the marble clad baptistery. Also, see the Piazza della Signoria and the Ponte Vecchio a must for exploring Italian culture. You are free this afternoon to explore at your own pace. (B)

*Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.

Day 19

(Wed, April 4) - Montecatini to Orvieto Rome:

This morning enjoy a guided tour of the Vatican*, including the Vatican Museum, which houses some of the most important and valuable art treasures in the world. Visit the Sistine Chapel to view the floor-to-ceiling Biblical frescoes painted by Michelangelo, and St. Peter’s Basilica. (B)

*Those attending the tour of the Vatican City should be prepared to walk two to three hours, in addition to climbing several flights of stairs.

Day 20

(Thurs, April 5) - Vatican Sightseeing:

This morning enjoy a guided tour of the Vatican*, including the Vatican Museum, which houses some of the most important and valuable art treasures in the world. Visit the Sistine Chapel to view the floor-to-ceiling Biblical frescoes painted by Michelangelo, and St. Peter’s Basilica. (B)

Day 21

(Fri, April 6) - Rome Sightseeing:

Your full-day sightseeing tour includes the highlights of this Eternal city* including views of the Roman Forum and the Colosseum, the largest amphitheater ever built in the Roman Empire, the Piazza Republica, Piazza Venezia, and the renowned Spanish Steps. Be sure to toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain and wish for your return to this marvelous city. Tonight enjoy a Farewell Dinner and the chance to say arrivederci to your fellow travelers. (B,D)
