The Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan (and 20,000 workers) to honor the memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaj Mahal. The perfectly symmetrical edifice is set amidst landscaped gardens on the banks of the Yamuna River.
