While there are certainly plenty of cornfields in Nebraska, the stereotype of agriculture wonderland is quickly getting shattered by the growing arts scene in one of its premier cities. Omaha has a little bit of everything for every member of the family. Need a romantic date night for two? Easy. And for the number of museums that can please both children and adults alike? Omaha has it in the bag.

Here are some of our favorite activities for anybody planning a trip to Omaha:

For Adults

For the artsy types, Joslyn Art Museum is the largest gallery in Nebraska and one of the best museums in the country. Tag team a mid-morning visit with an afternoon walk around the arts district in Omaha called The Old Market and you have a surefire plan for success in one of Nebraska’s largest cities. After a busy day of touring, spend a few hours tossing a cold one back at one of the many breweries around town. Stationed in a restored meat market, Infusion Brewing Company maintains some of the top reviews on Yelp and some of the best beers in the city. In fact, the Benson District is synonymous with beer.

For the Kids

Family vacation in Omaha? Combine history and fun with a day split perfectly between the largest water park in Nebraska and one of the best cultural attractions in Omaha. The Durham Museum is an interactive museum that combines hands-on activities and displays to help make history fun. As for the hard-to-please tweens and teens in your life, Defy Gravity — an indoor skydiving center — will quickly put a smile on even the most angsty of faces.

For Couples

At first glance, Omaha doesn’t seem like a city ripe for romance, but a second look reveals it can easily host one of the most romantic dates ever. Start off with an impressive brunch spread at Le Peep, one of the most popular spots in the city before a hot air balloon ride with Scenic Wind Balloons just before sunset (early birds can also opt for the sunrise tour). Then, throw on your LBD (little back dress) because it’s off to the Omaha Symphony for a night of music and class.

For Families

While there are plenty of bed and breakfasts throughout Omaha, a family vacation calls for more exciting accommodations. A state park may not be the first option that comes to mind, but in Nebraska it should be. Eugene T. Mahoney State Park is more like a resort with a ski lodge, water park and conservatory all in one. Ideal for outdoor enthusiasts any season, it’s the perfect base camp for a visit to the state.
