Once-in-a-Lifetime Basics

The beauty of the once-in-a-lifetime vacation is that it either takes you to out of the way destinations you’d never consider visiting on your own, or even revisits old destinations providing them with a new twist or angle. Some of the activities do require some experience or skill level, but there are also plenty that only need enthusiasm and a willingness to try something new. With the growth in adventure sports there are plenty of options in this market. You’ll be spoilt for choice!

Once-in-a-Lifetime - Beginners

If you’re on the look out for this kind of vacation take a look on adventure travel websites and see what piques your curiosity. Consider what mode of travel might interest you. Do you want to travel by bike, cruise, sky, road, water or space?

Decide who is coming with you. Is it a family trip, are you a senior, a solo woman or do you have special needs that might prevent you going too far out on a limb? After that consider if you want to include eco tourism, camping or outdoors options, island and beaches, extreme adventure or romantic destinations.

This will help narrow down the options for the perfect kind of travel. Good options for once-in-a-lifetime travel for beginners might be staying in a hotel made completely out of ice, taking a luxury train ride through the Australian outback or staying overnight in a Buddhist temple in Korea.

Once-in-a-Lifetime - Advanced

Generally travelers who have already done a fair bit of travel will begin looking for something different or an opportunity to use the skills they have in more extreme situations or locations.

If you already have some adventure experience or specialized skills you can easily develop these further. For example if you’re already an accomplished diver consider cave diving, diving with sharks or crocodiles or touring historic wrecks. You might even go for the ultimate dive experience down to the RMS Titanic.

If you enjoy flying consider getting into a Russian MiG fighter. Or add some spice to your next skiing vacation by getting dropped off in a helicopter first. And if you enjoy horseback riding consider a safari in Mongolia, land of the horse lord.
