Portland International Jetport

Maine’s biggest airport, or jetport, is located two miles west of Portland in the southern end of the state. Around 1.8 million passengers fly here each year, almost entirely from within the United States. The sole international flight runs to Toronto operated by Air Canada Express. The busiest domestic route is to Atlanta, followed by Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, Newark, and Chicago. AirTran, Delta, JetBlue, United Express, and US Airways are among the carriers with regular service to Portland, Maine.

The small but modern terminal at Portland Jetport is easy to navigate and has a nice selection of amenities for travelers. Food and drinks are available at the Shipyard Brewport, Linda Bean’s Maine Lobster Café, Great American Bagel, and Burger King. There is a Starbucks for coffee and several shops selling souvenirs, travel sundries, and reading material. ATMs are on hand both airside and landside, while Wi-Fi internet service is available throughout the terminal.

The Ground Transportation Booth outside of Baggage Claim is where travelers can arrange all of their transport needs. Taxis and limousines are on hand daily from the first flight until well after the last flight. Portland’s public Metro bus service runs route 5 from the airport to the city’s major transport hubs. Many travelers rent a car from Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, or National, which have desks just steps from the terminal exit at a consolidated car rental area.

Bangor International Airport

Maine’s second airport is located just outside of Bangor and is useful for reaching the northern parts of the state. It has limited regional flights to places along the eastern part of the country and despite its name, no international flights. Allegiant Air, Delta Connection, and US Airways Express are the only three carriers operating regularly out of Bangor. The main route is to Philadelphia, followed by New York, Detroit, Orlando, and St Petersburg.

The terminal has basic amenities, including one restaurant, a coffee shop, and two gift shops. Wireless internet access is available throughout the terminal. Rental cars from Avis, Budget, Hertz, or Alamo are a common means of transportation from the airport. There are also taxis waiting for every flight and several area hotels offer courtesy shuttles for their guests.
