Ben Gurion International Airport
There are no functioning airports for those looking to get directly into the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). However, tourists can fly into Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport, which is less than an hour’s drive away. The airport is found in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, not far from the Israeli city of Jerusalem. It is extremely secure, so travelers will not have to worry about their safety inside the terminals. The facility averages more than 13 million passengers a year, coming from destinations across Europe and Asia. There are direct flights to several American cities, including Newark and New York via United Airlines and Delta Airlines. In addition, flights to London, Paris, and Amsterdam, among other European destinations, make it easy for travelers to find connecting flights from other places in the United States of America.
The airport boasts four terminals, although only two are currently in use. Terminal 3 is the newest edifice, built in 2004. It is also the main international facility, serving more than 10 million passengers per year. Terminal 1 is now used for domestic services. Most of the shopping and restaurant facilities are located inside Terminal 3. Duty-Free is available in the terminal, and a large number of other shops can be found, including clothing stores like Hugo Boss and Victoria’s Secret, electronics shops like The Eight Note, and confectionary stores like Lim – Chocolates. Fast food is available, and sit down restaurants can be found too. Pizza Hut, Arbel Lounge, Ranch Café, and Frame are among the more popular restaurants at the terminals.
From Ben Gurion International Airport, tourists can travel into the PNA territories via both shuttle services and taxis. The trip between the airport and East Jerusalem usually takes about 50 minutes. However, tourists must also take into account border crossings, which can be unpredictable. Taxis and shuttles can also reach other cities of the West Bank, including famous destinations like Bethlehem and Ramallah.
Queen Alia International Airport
Visitors who have Palestinian ties are not allowed to pass through Israel when going to the PNA. Alternatively, these travelers can use the Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan. Royal Jordanian is the main carrier serving the airport, connecting Amman to several American cities, including New York and Chicago. From the airport, tourists can travel to the Allenby Bridge border crossing near the city of Jericho, the West Bank.
