Guam Taxis and Car Rental
Taxis in Guam are metered and widely available. There are stands waiting right outside major hotels, the airport and busy shopping centers. Renting a car can be an economical way to get around, especially if you are traveling with your family or a group. Vehicles are widely available from major companies like Avis, Payless, Dollar, and National, but booking in advance is recommended. Foreign drivers need a valid US driver's license or an International Driving Permit. Renting a car allows you to visit remote beaches, cultural landmarks and the many historical sites scattered throughout the island. Driving conditions are similar to those in the US, but the roads can get slippery when it is raining and traffic does get congested on main throughfares like Marine Corps Drive and Marine Drive. Getting a detailed street map from your hotel or car rental company is highly recommended.
Guam Trains and Buses
There are no trains in Guam, so the next best option is taking the bus. The Guam Mass Transit Authority is responsible for operating the public transportation, which runs nine routes that connect most of the island’s villages. Alternatively, there are tour buses and shopping buses that are privately owned and often more reliable. The double- or single-decker guhan trolleys are open-air and stop at major hotels and bus stops along designated routes. Gray Line Guam serves Fish Eye Marine Park, Chamorro Village and Hagatna Shopping Center. This company also offers four-hour island tours starting at Micronesia Mall, taking tourists to all the major attractions and landmarks on the island.
