Kansas City International Airport

Even though Kansas City International Airport is technically in Missouri, it is the main air hub for travelers to the eastern region of Kansas. Each year, more than 10 million people fly into Kansas City’s airport, which is located 15 miles northwest of the downtown area. Southwest (AirTran) is the main carrier here, along with Alaska Airlines, American, Delta, Frontier, SeaPort, United, and US Airways. Air Canada operates the sole international route to Toronto and the busiest domestic route is to Denver, followed by connections to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, and Phoenix.

Inside the very efficient and tidy airport passengers can enjoy Wi-Fi internet service. There are three terminals, each with a good selection of eateries, coffee shops, and retailers. Terminal B has the most variety of amenities, and there are business centers in each area.

Because Kansas City’s airport is such an important travel hub for the Midwest, there are numerous shuttle companies providing ground transportation into Kansas. There is also the Metro Public Bus service to downtown Kansas City, as well as taxis and limos. Eleven car rental companies are located at the airport, including national chains like Budget and local firms such as Fox. It takes about 20 minutes to reach downtown Kansas City by car, and Interstate 70 makes it easy to drive anywhere else in the state.

Wichita Mid-Continent Airport

Kansas’ largest airport provides convenient access to the central and western regions of the state. Nearly two million passengers use the airport annually, flying on AirTran, Allegiant Air, American, Delta, and United. The busiest route is to Atlanta, followed by trips to Denver, Dallas, Chicago, Houston, and Minneapolis.

The single terminal has basic amenities for passengers, including fast food eateries, newsstands, and shops selling travel sundries. Wi-Fi internet is provided throughout the terminal, along with ATMs, photocopy services, and a shoe shine outlet. Hang out in the Flight Deck in the west concourse for great views and comfortable chairs.

Ground transportation is available by shared shuttles, taxis, limos, and rental car. Eight major car rental firms have kiosks outside of Baggage Claim, including Alamo, Enterprise, and Hertz. The airport is located just a few minutes’ drive south of Wichita, off highway US 54/400.
