The Cook Islands is a year-round destination with slight seasonal variations and pleasant temperatures even during the summer months. The winter season lasts from May to October, with typical weather ranging from 64°F to 82°F. Summers start in November and end in April, with typical temperatures from 70°F to 84°F. Throughout the year, the climate is mild and predictable, with no extreme humidity or excess heat. Rainy spells can sometimes be long and hard, though.

Minor cyclones are experienced every year in the humid and sticky wet season. Severe tornadoes have a 20-year cycle, but they are becoming more and more difficult to predict. In 2005, five strong ones unexpectedly hit the islands in a span of just five weeks. Winter nights can get chilly, so bring layers when visiting during this time of the year.

Best Time to Visit the Cook Islands

The best months to visit the Cook Islands are from September to October, when temperatures are most pleasant. March and April are also notably good, as the skies are often clear and sunny after the cyclone season. It is best to avoid the Christmas and New Year periods as domestic travel gets quite busy. Flights are packed and accommodation is scarce during the holidays.
