There's a whole lot of exciting fun going on this summer in Winter Park, Colorado! With have tons of cool events planned throughout the summer months as well as extensive mountain activities in our area, there's plenty to do, to see, and to enjoy in the place that's known as the base camp to the Rocky Mountains. Here's a quick list of 10 of our favorite summer activities in Colorado's favorite playground.

1. Rafting

If you’ve never been whitewater rafting, you’re missing out. We’re not joking when we say it might be the most exciting activity in the mountains – such a rush! With the Colorado River right here in our own backyard, the rafting adventures abound around Winter Park.

2. Hiking

There’s a myriad of magnificent hiking trails around Winter Park and the Fraser Valley, with flavors for every style and ability. From meandering through the meadows and forests of the Fraser Valley to exploring alpine lakes up along the Continental Divide, there’s a Rocky Mountain hike waiting for you.

3. Biking

If you’re looking for a Rocky Mountain bike adventure, look no further than Mountain Bike Capital USA. With more than 600 miles of trails — including downhill trails, cross-country trails, paved trails, and even two lift-served bike parks — there’s a bike adventure for every age and ability in Winter Park.


4. Zip lining

This mountain activity involves literally “zipping” through the air on a cable line, providing an adrenaline rush like no other. Several area guest resorts offer zip line tours, including The Devil’s Thumb Ranch and Snow Mountain Ranch.

5. Rodeos

From bronco riding and racing to steer wrestling and roping, there’s all kinds of rodeo excitement in the Winter Park area so you can enjoy an authentic Colorado rodeo. Cowboy up!

6. Golf

Grand County is often called a “mountain golf mecca,” with no less than four golf courses in the area. Oh, and the rumors are true: golfing at high elevations really does make your ball fly farther! Come experience Colorado mountain golf at its finest!

7. Horseback Riding

Experience the Rocky Mountains the way the cowboys used to — on horseback. Horseback riding is a time-honored tradition in Colorado, dating back to the pioneer days of the Old West. Several guest ranches serve the Winter Park area, with well-mannered horses that are friendly to both adults and children alike.

8. Fishing

The Winter Park area offers fantastic fly-fishing for trophy trout, with the Fraser and Upper Colorado Rivers both full of rainbow, brown, brook, and cutthroat trout. Several fly-fishing guides and outfitters serve the Winter Park area as well.

9. Spas

The Fraser Valley area offers world-class spas, salons, and saunas. From mani and pedis to a good mountain massage after a day of exploring the Ricky Mountains, Winter Park is a great place not only to explore but to relax and be pampered.

10. Winter Park Event

Live music! Arts and crafts! Fun runs! Blues and bikes and beers, oh my! From festivals to concerts, there are tons of events planned in Winter Park and Fraser this summer. Check out our Signature Summer Events for more info.

With a wide variety of mountain events and activities planned, Winter Park is the place to be this summer. After all, nobody would call them Colorado’s favorite Playground if they didn’t offer virtually endless ways to play, right?
