Surrounded by the immense beauty of the Outer Banks, you'll wonder why you've never been there before. Overwhelmed by the vast variety of adventures it has to offer, you'll wonder why you'd ever leave. The long, thin islands, stretching along the coast of North Carolina vary from several miles wide at the largest section to points narrow enough to throw a baseball across. With many miles of the island designated as protected seashore, you can always find empty Southern beaches to spend the day in solitude. Wild horses can be found running on the dunes on the Northern beaches where an entire community has been developed that can only be accessed by driving 4x4 vehicles on the beach.

There is a bit of magic all around the Outer Banks waiting to suck you in to its surreal life.

Adventure at Every Cove

The Outer Banks boasts an extreme variety of water sports for all types of outdoorsmen and women. Whether you are a pro surfer or this is your first time in the ocean, these islands are a great place to get wet and purse a variety of action adventure sports.

Surfing - Of the many components that have made the Outer Banks a top destination, surfing always places high on the list. The fast, barreling waves have produced some world famous surfers such as Jessie Hines, Noah Snyder, and Matt Beacham. Paddle out with the pros at "S Turns" in Rodanthe, or sign up for surf lessons with Outer Banks Boarding Company.

Sailing - Forget traveling by four wheels. The best way to access the Outer Banks is by sailing down the inner coastal waterway. If you're new to boating, you can take lessons with Norbanks and explore the many inlets and small islands speckling the sound.

Kite boarding and Wind surfing - Over 100 years ago the Wright Brothers came to the Outer Banks to take advantage of the ever-blowing winds and they achieved their first famous flight. Today those winds still blow and make this a Mecca to kite surfers and wind surfers who harness the wind in these ever advancing sports.

Fishing - After you've tried a few of the seafood restaurants on the Outer Banks, cast out your reel and catch your own meal. Spend the day fishing from the beach or one of the beautiful piers as you watch the surf below. Charter fishing trips are available at Pirates Cove Marina or Orgen Inlet for off shore excursions.
