Guernsey Airport
The revamped Guernsey Airport is a useful facility, receiving a decent range of flights from around Europe, as well as from other Channel Islands. It is located a few miles to the southwest of St Peter Port and offers a dozen check-in desks and good passenger facilities.
The Guernsey Airport handles just short of a million annual flyers with Flybe, Blue Islands, and Aurigny Air, mainly from British cities, so US-based travelers should transfer in London. Air Berlin serves Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Hanover, and Cityjet flies to Rotterdam. Some of these routes are seasonal, so check ahead when looking to visit off-season.
Facilities for the single-terminal airport are easy to navigate. There is an ATM and currency exchange in Arrivals, along with car rental offices and duty-free shopping. Café Ritazza provides snacks and coffee, plus there’s the self-service Apron Terrace restaurant, the Food Village, and a bar. There are standard shops—newsagent and gifts, et cetera—as well as a first-aid station and lost luggage. Wireless internet is available throughout the terminal building.
Taxis run to all points on the island and can be hailed from a stand just outside Guernsey Airport Arrivals. Taxis are metered and there is an airport surcharge, though prices to St Peter Port are not bad. You can pre-book a taxi at the airport by calling +44-1481-235-283. This is especially worthwhile in July and August to avoid the line. Island Coachways is the local bus service, with bus numbers 4 and 7 running to all main destinations on Guernsey from the airport. If staying at a bigger hotel, check whether they provide courtesy airport transfers.
To get to St Peter Port by car rental, take Forest Road east from the airport and follow the marked signs. It is only four miles and takes approximately 10 minutes. Vazon Bay is about the same time and distance from the airport, while a 20-minute drive will get you right up to L’Ancresse Bay in the north of Guernsey.
