If you’re venturing from Yellowstone to Glacier National Park or you’re just looking to add a new dynamic element to your vacation, come to Montana’s capital city, Helena.

History
Founded on the banks of the Missouri River, Lewis & Clark traveled though the area and later gold was discovered in what is now Downtown Helena’s Last Chance Gulch.  If you’re after history, Helena has handfuls.  Our historic mansion district is comprised of beautiful properties that will take you back in time.  Historic walking brochures are available at the Helena Visitor’s Center and can be downloaded from our web site.

Outdoors
Helena’s outdoor scene has been nationally recognized.  TrailRunner Magazine featured Helena as one of the top trail running towns in the United States.  An extensive mountain bike trail network stems from the Downtown area and offers mountain biking for all skill levels.  Stop by one of our locally-owned and operated bike shops, for the inside scoop on what trails not to miss while you’re in town.

After being out on the trails why not treat yourself to one of Helena’s famous microbrews.  In Downtown Helena you’ll find Blackfoot River Brewery.  Try a Steamboat, grab some popcorn and take in the sun on their outdoor deck.  The Lewis & Clark Brewery is sporting a beautiful new location to sample their excellent brews and take in some live music.

Arts
If you need a dose of the arts, Helena will be happy to comply with attractions such as the Holter Museum of Art, the Archie Bray Foundation for Ceramic Arts, the Montana Historical Society and quaint locally-owned galleries and studios.  Live theatre venues such as the Myrna Loy Center, Grandstreet Theatre and Starz on Stage offer a wide variety of music and performances.

Family Fun
While in Helena, your family can discover Exploration Works Museum of Science & Culture.  Exploration Works is a world-class interactive museum.  It’s the perfect stop to let the kids (and adults) be kids! The Great Northern Carousel is just across the way from Exploration Works, featuring some of the most beautiful hand-carved carousel animals you will ever see.  All the carousel animals are native to Montana.  After all that fun, you’ll need to refresh with one-of-kind ice cream cone from the Big Dipper or an old-fashioned soda from the Parrot Confectionary.

Explore Tizer Botanical Gardens.  Be entertained at the Last Chance Wagon Ride Dinners.  Enjoy a boat tour of the Gates of the Mountains.  We can’t wait to see you in Helena.
