Cultural entertainment is rather thin on the ground throughout the city, although many of the larger hotels put on performances of music and dance. You should buy tickets in person at the venue. Cultural performances: You can watch performances of music and dance at Bhanchha Ghar, Kamaladi (tel: (01) 422 5172; website: www.bhanchhaghar.com), Bhojan Griha, Dillibazar (tel: (01) 441 1603; website: www.bhojangriha.com.np), and Nepali Chulo, Durbar Marg (tel: (01) 422 0475). Nepali and foreign plays are performed by the Aarohan Theater Group at Gurukul, Baneshwor (tel: (01) 446 6956; website: www.aarohantheater.org).

Cinemas: The Gopi Krishna Movie Hall, Chabahil (tel: (01) 447 9893; website: www.gopikrishna.com.np), screens blockbusters from India to large crowds. Occasional films from Europe and America are screened at the Jai Nepal multiplex, 317 Narayanhiti Marg (tel: (01) 444 2220; website: www.jainepal.com), or the smaller Kumari Cinema on Kamal Pokhari (tel: (01) 443 3402; website: www.jainepal.com).
