Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival

June 3, 2010 - September 25, 2010

In tented pavilions at an evocative waterfront venue, the Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival is a season of four professionally-produced plays by Shakespeare performed against a spectacular backdrop of mountains, sea and sky. Throughout the summer, two different plays are presented at each of the 525-seat main stage and the 240-seat Studio Stage. This is one of Canada’s largest professional Shakespeare Festivals and offers a unique theater experience.

Wetaskiwin Air Show

The Wetaskiwin Air Show is a spectacular two-day event featuring the ‘Canadian Forces Snowbirds’. They are a demonstration jet team including numerous Canadian and US civilian performers. Other events and services include static air displays, kids’ activities, a flight simulator and food vendors. The show is sited amid depictions of the history of transportation in the world-class Reynolds-Alberta Museum.

Edmonton Folk Music Festival

In a natural amphitheater in scenic parkland, the Edmonton Folk Music Festival offers world-class music at affordable prices. The best in Celtic, bluegrass, blues, gospel, roots, world beat and singer/songwriter music is showcased in the park, along with some country and R&B for good measure. Impromptu sessions are a feature, enabling performers to jam together in front of an audience, which helps produce strong festival dynamics and a unique musical experience.

Canadian Western Agribition

Held at the 8 hectare (19 acres) site of IPSCO Place (formerly the Regina Exhibition Park), the Canadian Western Agribition is one of the region’s most popular agricultural shows. The show is all under cover in an all-weather arena where visitors can see exhibits of purebred beef, commercial and dairy cattle, heavy and light horses, sheep, goats, llamas, bison and much more. Agribition is one of North America’s largest and best known agricultural marketplaces, attracting mainly people from the farming industry who come from across the northern continent and as well as from overseas.

Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival

This long-running festival brings folk musicians from far and wide to the harbor of this strikingly pretty fishing town of painted clapperboard houses. A succession of concerts features an impressive list of performers, interspersed with other events such as Country Dance, Old Time Sing Along, Instrument Making, workshops and children’s stage. The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival brings sounds from around the world including the finest acoustic music played by some of the best talent available. The venues each provide magical settings that draw together the elements of land, sea and sky.

International Air Show

August 12, 2010 - August 14, 2010

This prestigious air show takes place near Vancouver and features static displays of aircraft of the Canadian, US and other nation’s armed forces, as well as various flying displays. The air show also co-operates with the local flying club to put on displays of civilian light aircraft in vintage, classic, trainers, warbirds, sailplanes, homebuilts, ultralights and contemporary classes.

New Brunswick Highland Games and Scottish Festival

Each year approximately 8,000 people turn up to witness this pageant of color, music and activity. One of the largest of the eastern side Canadian Scottish Festivals, it takes place in the grounds of the historic Old Government House after a warm-up event in town. A free concert in Queen Street with the Saint Andrew Pipe Band drums up interest in the main event, a free open-air concert at the venue with folk music and Scottish bands.

International Festival of New Cinema and New Media

Once Upon A Christmas at Heritage Park

November 19, 2011 - December 18, 2011

Heritage Park opens up for weekends in the run-up to Christmas with an old-fashioned, winter wonderland-themed event. This is a real family affair, with horse-drawn carriage rides, carol singing in the church and live historical theater. Children (and grown-up kids too) can pass on their requests to Santa Claus and pat his reindeer. The Haskayne Mercantile Block is also open for a spot of Christmas shopping.

La Fête des Neiges

January 22, 2012 - February 6, 2012

Winter festival celebrating everything snow related. Held on three consective weekends in Parc Jean Drapeau, the event offers park trails, skating, boot hockey and tube sliding.
