Palma Culture
Palma is the main cultural hub of the Balearic Islands, with an ambitious program which attracts world-class performers year round. Three main theater venues, Auditorium, Passeig Marítim 18 (tel: (971) 234 735; website: www.auditoriumpalma.es), Teatre Municipal, Passeig Mallorca 9b (tel: (971) 739 148), and Teatre Principal, Carrer de la Riera 2 (tel: (971) 713 346; website: www.teatreprincipal.com), stage everything from classical to contemporary drama, dance, classical concerts, opera and zarzuela (Spanish light opera).

There are several cinema complexes, including Multicines Chaplin, Carrer Bartolome Torres 56 (tel: (971) 277 662) and Cine Nuevo Hispania, Carrer de Benito Pons 4 (tel: (971) 270 475), which show mostly ’original version’ blockbuster movies with Castilian Spanish subtitles. Palma Tours
The Tourist Information Office (tel: (971) 720 720) organizes guided walking tours on such themes as ‘The City and the Sea’, ‘Monumental Palma’ and ‘Modernism in Palma’, and an evening stroll entitled ‘The Stories and Legends of Palma’. Or take to the water with Cruceros Marco Polo (tel: (971) 242 006), one of several boat companies offering daily tours of the Bay of Palma.
The Palma City Sightseeing Bus (website: www.city-sightseeing.com) is a hop-on-hop-off service, leaving every 20 minutes from 16 bus-stops at the main sights around the city. For a more leisurely and romantic mode of transport, smart, red galeras (horse-drawn carriages) offer an hour-long tour of the old town, starting beside the cathedral, or in Carrer Palau Reial, Avinguda d’Antoni Maura and Passeig Sagrera.
