• Wonder at the Liechtenstein royal family home and the capital’s landmark - the medieval castle of Schloss Vaduz. It was extended in the 16th and 17th centuries and looms high above Vaduz.

• See the other sights of Vaduz, such as the Postage Stamp Museum, the National Library, the Ski Museum, and the National Museum. The Liechtenstein Art Museum contains works by Rembrandt, Rubens and Van Dyck.

• Admire Gutenberg Castle and St Peter’s Chapel at Balzers.

• Peek into the St Mamerten and Maria chapels and the old part of the village in Triesen; and the Chapel of St Joseph in Planken.

• Gaze at Liechtenstein’s’ heritage - the Roman excavations at Eschen-Nendeln; the parish churches in Bendern, Mauren and Ruggell; and the ruins of the upper and lower Burg Schellenberg.

• Visit Schaan, which is noted for its theater, its Roman excavations, the St Maria zum Trost Chapel and DoMus - Museum and Gallery of the Community of Schaan.

• Ski at Malbun (1,600m/5,250ft) and Steg (1,300m/4,250ft). At Malbun, there are several ski lifts and a natural ice rink. Steg has a sledge run as well as its famous cross-country skiing loop with three distances (4km/2.5 miles, 12km/7 miles and 12.5km/7.8 miles).

• Hike from Gaflei, at 1,500m (4,920ft), the starting point for the Fürstensteig - a path along the high ridge dividing the Rhine and Samina valleys.

• Cycle in the valleys and lower-lying areas; there are 96km (56 miles) of cycling trails on both sides of the River Rhine. Mountain bikers may also use the hiking trails.

• Paraglide over the mountains.
