Passports are required for nationals from Britain, Australia, Canada and the US, except: 1. Other EU nationals who hold a valid national ID card.

Passport Notes

Nationals from outside the EU must be able to justify their reason for entering the country, and, if required, show sufficient funds for a return journey.

France is a signatory to the 1995 Schengen Agreement.

Visas

Neither visas nor return tickets are required for nationals from Britain, Australia, Canada and the US, or other EU nationals.

Travel Warnings

There is a threat from terrorism. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travelers. A letter bomb exploded in a building in central Paris on 6 December 2007. One person was killed and another seriously injured.

In recent years, a number of explosions and failed explosions have occurred in Corsica. Visitors are advised to take care, particularly in town centers and near public buildings, and be wary of unattended packages.

Travel to France can be disrupted by strike action. It is recommended that you contact your travel provider before you travel.

It is compulsory to carry a warning triangle and reflective jacket in all vehicles.

Health Care

If European visitors or any of their dependants are suddenly taken ill or have an accident during a visit to France, free or reduced-cost necessary treatment is available - in most cases on production of a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Full travel insurance is advised for all travelers.
