All luxury items up to US$1,200 are cheap as they are duty-free. Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas is the best shopping center. Best buys include watches, cameras, fine jewelry, china, leather goods, perfume, spirits and designer clothing.

Shopping hours: Mon-Sat 0900-1700. When cruise ships are in port, some larger shops open on Sunday.

Travelers Checks

To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travelers are advised to take traveler's checks in US Dollars.

Currency Restrictions

There are no restrictions on the import or export of local or foreign currency. However, amounts in excess of US$10,000 or equivalent should be declared at customs.
